Great Article from TED

After going to the TED Conference last week, I found this great article on the wild stunt by Bill Gates:

Let me know, you think it got the point across?

  3. Hi !
    I leave in Paris, France.
I’ve been discovering all of your material for a year now.
I’m passionate about getting the best out of ourselves.
I want to do what you do .
I want to build a system that pushes us to become the best we can be.
I want to learn it and spread it.
There is no French Tony Robbins.
It would be quite useful to translate your words in French.
How can I get in touch with you?
Would you be willing to let someone translate your words in an Audio format like “Get the Edge” or “Unlimited Power”?
Let me know what you think !
    Best regards
    Fabrice.

  4. BG probably ‘shifted their focus’…possibly even broke a few patterns!
Obviously the Media is having ‘their day’ with the news, and they’re just doin’ what they do…
non-the-less…BG did what he wanted to do and got his message across…as ‘most’ successful men/women do.
    Hope all is well!

  5. I would call that great “experiential marketing”, it’s more than just a stunt because it was perfectly on strategy.

Transporting people in the audience from an expected, safe environment to a place where mosquito-borne viruses are an issue really must have made the issue more real in the audience’s mind.

I’m reminded of the unexpected improve performance at a crowded airport to promote the arts:

  6. The only thing missing was the REAL maleria infected mosquito’s! Maybe a taste of what it feels like to suffer from maleria would have a stronger impact! I like the idea…and would like to think that he got his point across to at least one person in that audience. I was infected with Maleria on a trip to Thailand and can not imagine the suffering people must go through before they die. It must be horriffic! Maybe the shock of thinking that we are not immune to it in our safe little bubbles, will open some eye’s. People should CARE reguardless, but when it hit’s a little closer to home it is harder to ignore.
    Keep shocking them Bill!

  9. Well it was a dumb stunt, there are better ways of getting the point across. BTW are these domestic mosquitoes? California bans non native, the whole farming thing ;)

Also aren’t these critters always carrying something? aren’t some folks…….

  10. I’m sure it hit home with a few Tony. Interesting and aggressive strategy. I would have had to be there to feel the response of the audience to give more input.

Hopefully TED uploads your contribution again this year to benefit all of us:)
